Obituary for Thomas Moore

THOMAS WILLIAM MOORE SR YOUNGSTOWN – Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 31, at the Greater Friendship Baptist Church, for Mr. Thomas William Moore Sr., who departed this life Monday morning, Oct. 24, 2016, in the comfort of his home, which he shared with his loving granddaughter, Alisa Jennings, at his bedside. Thomas was born on Sept. 20, 1926, in Concord, N.C.., the son of Ralph Sr. and Minnie Harrison Moore. Thomas retired in 1985, from LTV Steel, formerly Republic Steel, after 36 years of service as a craneman.
After retirement, he definitely enjoyed meeting with the coffee group at McDonald’s, Thomas was a devoted member of the Greater Friendship Baptist Church for approximately 50 years actively, until his illness did not allow him to attend services.
Thomas is survived by his sons, Thomas W. Moore Jr. and William Jennings; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Annie L. Bush and Betty Griffin; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, the former Ellen (Sims) Moore, whom he married on Jan. 15, 1955, and died March 12, 1994; two brothers, Ralph Jr., and J. W. Moore; and three sisters, Lillie Charlton, Nell Brown and Rachel Hutchinson. The family wishes to thank the staff at Hospice of the Valley for assisting with the gentle care and peaceful transition.
