Obituary for Robert W. Daniels

Robert William Daniels SARASOTA, FLA. -- Robert William Daniels, 80, passed away September 19, 2016. Bob graduated from Beaver Falls, Pa. High School in 1954, earned a Bachelor in Education from Geneva College in Pa. in 1958 and a Masters in Educational Administration in 1968 from The University of Akron. Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1959-1961 in Munich, Germany where he graduated with honors from the 24th Infantry Medical Leadership Program. Bob was a high school English teacher from 1961-1970 at New Philadelphia and Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio High Schools; was a Curriculum Specialist in the Cuyahoga Falls schools from 1970-1977 where he also served as a member and past president of the Cuyahoga Falls Civitan Club; and served in the Stow-Munroe Falls Schools as Director of Secondary Education and later as Assistant Superintendent until he retired in 1992. During his tenure at Stow, he worked closely with the Board of Education and teaching staff in planning and developing the new Stow-Munroe Falls High School. Following retirement from education in 1992, Bob enjoyed living in Sarasota, Fla. where he loved playing tennis, golf, and going to music and sporting activities. Going to spring training games at McKechnie Field was a special treat since Bob was an avid, lifetime fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Bob also enjoyed his part-time job at the Tennis Center at Laurel Oak Country Club from 2002-2011. Bob had a strong belief in God and belonged to various churches during his lifetime, including First United Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls and Faith Lutheran Church in Sarasota. Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Jean Daniels of Eastvale, Pa; and son, Mark Daniels in 1992, he is survived by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis Provence-Daniels of Sarasota, Fla.; daughter, Christine (Brian) Bennett; and grandchildren, Caroline (Daniel) Speidel, and Patrick Bennett. Rev. Dr. David Baker will conduct a funeral service TODAY 7 P.M. at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Rd., Stow, where friends may call from 5 p.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 7750 Beneva Road, Sarasota, FL 34238. Private burial Chestnut Hill Memorial Park in Cuyahoga Falls beside his son, Mark.
