Obituary for Thomas G Sr Mager

THOMAS G. MAGER SR YOUNGSTOWN – Thomas G. Mager Sr., 69, passed away early Tuesday evening, Aug. 16, 2016, at his home with his family by his side following an extended illness. Thomas was born Dec. 23, 1946, in Youngstown, a son of the late George and Mary Cimmento Mager. He was a 1965 graduate of Chaney High School and was a lifelong area resident. Tom served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves for five years, and worked for BFI for 25 years. After retiring from BFI, he worked for nine years in the maintenance department at the YMCA in downtown Youngstown. Mr. Mager was converted to Christ, Dec. 2, 1985, and was a member of the Sovereign Grace Chapel in Youngstown, where he was a deacon for the past 10 years. He lived his life aiming to glorify God in all that he did. Tom was a fan of the Cleveland pro sports teams and of the Ohio State Buckeyes, and in his younger days coached football and baseball for 20 years in various area youth leagues. He enjoyed reading theological books, loved the time he spent with his family, and he especially enjoyed being a “papa.” Tom leaves his wife of 41 years, Jerrie Doerr Mager, whom he married Nov. 9, 1974; four children, Tom (Tina) Mager of Kent, Pastor Matt (Bernadine) Mager of Youngstown, Missy Mager of Youngstown, and Mindy (Andy) Reigstad of Canfield; 12 grandchildren, Tommy, Gianna, Luke, Olivia, Sophia, Gracelyn, Moriah, Samuel, Boaz, Carly, Micaiah, and Noelle; a brother, George Mager of Youngstown; and a sister-in-law, Sharyn Boone of Austintown. Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., today, Friday, Aug. 19, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown. Family and friends may also call from 9 to 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 20, at Sovereign Grace Chapel, 2012 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, where funeral services will take place at 10 a.m., with his son, Pastor Matt Mager, officiating. Committal services will follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens. Tom loved life, and his family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his name to the Pregnancy Help Center, 4845 Market St., No. 13, Youngstown, OH 44512.
