Obituary for Virginia A. Coates

VIRGINIA A. COATES YOUNGSTOWN - Virginia A. Coates, 93, passed away Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016, at Austin Woods Nursing Center. She was born Feb. 20, 1923, in Youngstown, daughter to the late Ernest and Maude Flick. Virginia was a graduate from South High School. She married Jack W. Coates on June 25, 1942, and they spent 46 years together before Jack’s passing in 1988. Virginia was employed by Home Savings and Loan and retired in 1988. She was a member of the Western Reserve United Methodist Church. She will be remembered for the enjoyment she found playing cards and she was a member of several card clubs.
She also was an avid bowler and participated in numerous leagues, and she was an original member of the Austintown Pony Colt Bowling League. Left to celebrate Virginia’s life are her children, Gary (Teresa) Coates, Lynn (Emil) Foriska, and Ginger Brest; her grandchildren, Amy, Kristi, Shannon, Randy, Joeli, and Breana; her nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her brothers, Jack and Ned Flick; and her sister, Florence Shood. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 16, at the Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road. Funeral services will take place at the church on Wednesday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m., with calling hours one hour prior. Interment will follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
