Obituary for John H. Bryan

John H. Bryan Sr. CUYAHOGA FALLS -- John H. Bryan, 87, passed away in his Cuyahoga Falls home on July 4, 2016. The son of William R. and Mary Bryan, he was born June 16, 1929, in Yorkville, Ohio. He was a 1947 graduate of Warren Consolidated High School, in Tiltonsville. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-54 and was a service-disabled veteran of the Korean War. He and his wife, Mary, whom he wed Oct. 12, 1957, were married for 52 years. She preceded him in death in 2010. John earned his bachelor''s and master''s degrees from The University of Akron and taught for 26 years in the Cuyahoga Falls City Schools system, where he was an officer for a number of years in the Cuyahoga Falls Education Association. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph''s Catholic Church, in Cuyahoga Falls, where for many years he was an usher and counter. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Myrtle Bryan, in infancy, Margaret Piazza, and Irene DeLise. He is survived by three sons, William R. of Lakewood, John Jr. of Arlington, Va., James M. (Wendy) Bryan of Apopka, Fla.; and a daughter, Judy B. of San Francisco. He is also survived by grandsons. John III, of Arlington, Joseph, and Daniel, both of Apopka. Other survivors include sisters, Elizabeth and Nancy Ellen Bryan, of Yorkville; brother, James of Rayland, and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call 2 hours prior to a 1 p.m. funeral service on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221, Father David J. McCarthy will officiate. Interment at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park.
