Obituary for Herman Rains

Herman passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016. Born April 23, 1931 in Clairfield, TN, he has lived in Eastlake for the past 62 years. He was a longtime member of Willo-Hill Baptist Church where he accepted Christ as his Savior back in 1969. He later became a member of Lakeside Baptist Church in Painesville. Dad was a Deacon at Willo-Hill Baptist Church where he also served as a Bus Captain driving each week to Chardon to pick up children and take them to church, and had the privilege of witnessing several families come to know Christ as their personal Lord. He had a strong desire to share with everyone the gospel of Christ giving them the plan of salvation. He was an exemplary example of the great commission in Matthew 28:16-20. He served in the Korean Conflict with 182nd Airborne Division of the Army as a paratrooper. Herman worked for General Electric, Tungsten Road plant in Cleveland as a swagger machinist retiring, after 42 years of service. After retiring he began working for Martin Mobile in Eastlake driving veterans to the VA hospital in Cleveland. Still wanting to keep busy he then began working for the VA hospital as a porter until his final retirement about 6 years ago. He is survived by his children, Janet (David) VanderWier of Osceola, IN, Clint (Debbie) Rains of Painesville, and Linda (James) Butler of Rock Spring, GA; grandchildren, Tanya, David, Jill, Lisa, Troy, Travis, Rachel, Steven, Rebekah and Christy; 11 great grandchildren; brothers, Damon Rains and Bert Rains. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty in 2013 and by his parents, Nolan and Roxie (Moyers) Rains. Herman came from a family of 10 children, two of whom died at 6 months of age. He lived his life well and by example to others of Christ''s love for them. Well done thy good and faithful servant.
