Obituary for Emily S Lorimer

In Memoriam.

Mrs. Emily Mitchell Lormier was bom near Wooster, Ohio, Dec. 4, 1815, and died in Olathe, Kans., Oct. 2, 1890.

This dear mother had a quiet, busy, usseful life as daughter, sister, friend, but especially in faithfully performing her duties as the wife of a Christian minister for thirty-five years. For the past ten years her home has been with her eldest daughter, Mrs. M. L. McClenahan, of East Lulu street. During the beginning of her illness of eight weeks she was kindly attended by her sons, Rev. S. W. Lorimer of Clearfield, la., W. M. Lorimer of Omaha, Nebraska, her daughter, Mrs. W. W. Porter of Winterset, la., and Mrs. Dr. Brown of Waterloo. Kansas, and many kind friends and neighbors, who did all that was possible to lighten the weary, painful burden.

In health she was ever striving to make those within her influence whether near or in foreign lands happier and better. But especially did she desire to bring souls to Christ, saying “my time is so short, I must work now.” When the last illness came she was ready; her work was done -  not a cloud, not a quaver, not an earthly care was hers  - just waiting, lingering to go home.

When asked a few days before her death if she had any regrets in leaving her dear ones she answered "No, no, no, it is joy, joy" but added it is "all Christ's finished righteousness for me."

The last four hours of her life were sad to witness in the struggle with death. But at last the glorious eves were opened wide to see things which we have never seen, and just as the clock struck twelve she passed from this midnight of earth to the morning of Heaven and there shall be no more pain, "And God shall wipe away all tears; Light and joy forever."
