A sad and most, distressing accident occurred at the Ft. Scott Depot last Friday morning by which a young man named Albert L. Graves, employed as a brake man by the Railroad company came to a sudden and untimely death. In attempting to couple cars while in motion his foot was caught in the brake bar, throwing him to the ground in which position he was dragged over the cross ties a distance equal to the length of three cars. When rescued his body was found to be in a horribly mangled condition, and he only lived in a semi conscious, state for a couple hours. Coroner William Scott called an inquest on last Suuday and a verdict found in accordance with the above facts. Graves had friends residing some place in Missouri, but all efforts to get information to them was futile. He was buried Monday morning in the Cemetery north of town by order of the Railroad company, they paying all expenses.
