Obituary for Elizabeth F Kennedy

Mrs. Elizabeth Kennedy.

Died, in Gardner, Kansas, December 30, 1897, Elizabeth Kennedy, wife of Jeff Kennedy, aged fifty-four years ten months and sixteen days.

Mrs. Kennedy, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Franklin, was born in Cass county, Mo., February 14, 1843. She was married, December 7, 1869, to Jeff Kennedy, and they lived the greater part of the time since in their present home near Belleview. She had gone to Gardner the week before to visit her married daughter, Mrs. Geo. Senter, where she was taken sick immediately, but not thought at first to be seriously ill, as she had been a sufferer for years from a complication of diseases, although most of the time able to attend to household duties. It was a great shock to the family and entire community when word was brought that she could not live. Doubly heavy falls the blow to the relatives as only five weeks ago her sister, Mrs. Samuel, was buried.

Another home has been robbed of its dearest earthly treasure, a fond mother who was ever ready with words of sympathy and encouragement, and who always greeted her friends with a pleasant smile. A woman whose influence was ever exerted for good. She leaves a husband, three sons, two daughters, two sisters, two brothers, and many other relatives with a host of friends to mourn her loss.

She was an earnest Christian, a member of the M. E. church South of Belleview. A short service was conducted by Rev. Davis in Gardner at the home of her daughter at 8:30 o''clock on New Year''s morning. Remains brought to Stanley on the 12 o''clock train and taken to the church, where Rev. R. U. Waldraven, pastor of Belleview church, conducted the funeral services. His words were comforting, portraying the Christian s triumph tover death. The floral tributes were beautiful. She was buried in Aubry cemetery by side of other memberof her family.

Although the loved one has gone from the home never more to return, let us bear in mind the comforting thought that where she is we may dwell also "In the mansions not made with hand, eternal in the heavens." We will cherish in memory her winning manner and Christian virtues
A Friend.
