Obituary for James Plunkell

KILLED BY SANTA FE TRAIN.

Monday morning, the ten o'clock north bound Santa Fe train ran down James Plunkell, an old soldier, on a furlough, from the  soldiers' home at Leavenworth.  The accident was near Elizabeth. It appears that the man was walking on the track on the right side when he stepped off to avoid a freight train and stepped in front of the passenger on the other side, meeting instant death.

The body was viewed by the coroner and returned to Olathe for burial. Funeral services were under the auspices of the G. A. R. Post.
