Obituary for Raymond F McClain

RAYMOND F. MCCLAIN“Together Again” YOUNGSTOWN - Raymond F. McClain, 90, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015, at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home. He was born on Nov. 21, 1924, in Girard, son to the late William and Vera (Gates) McClain. Raymond attended Austintown-Fitch High School before joining the Navy in 1943. After his service to our nation, he returned and married the love of his life, the former Betty J. Green, on May 23, 1948. They celebrated the next 58 years together before Betty’s passing on Dec. 13, 2006. Raymond went on to work for Copperweld Steel as a Crane Operator for over 30 years before retiring in 1986. Raymond was a member of the American Legion Post No. 374 in East Liverpool.
He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his sense of humor and his jokes, and for his skill as a woodworker. He also enjoyed following Cleveland sports and Ohio State University.
Left to celebrate Raymond’s life are his two daughters, Patty Cozad of Niles, and Judy (Robert) Fusco of Austintown; his grandchildren, John (Cathy) Forrest of Sacramento, Calif., Michelle Binion of Austintown, and Greg (Becky) Cozad of Niles; his three great-grandchildren; and one more on the way; and his nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Raymond was preceded in death by his daughters, Linda Morrison and Joann McClain; his sister, Dorothy Roth; his brothers, Richard, William, and Paul McClain; and his son-in-law, Chuck Cozad. The family will receive friends from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20 at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave., where a funeral service will follow at 5:30 p.m. Interment will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made in Raymond’s honor to either Hospice of the Valley or Heritage Manor for the excellent care they provided for the McClain family.
