Obituary for Harry Jr. Hlywa

HARRY HLYWA JR CANFIELD - Harry Hlywa Jr., 67, passed away at home on Saturday, Nov. 21. He was born on Sept. 21, 1948, in Youngstown, son to the late Harry Sr. and Mary (Dewlit) Hlywa. Harry graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and attended Youngstown State University. He joined the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Seabees during his service to our nation. On Oct. 17, 1970, Harry married his wife of 45 years, the former Ann Marie Strichek. Harry was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and a Freemason with the Sulgrave Lodge.

He will be remembered for his woodworking and his love of cooking. Harry also was a passionate “Papa” and storyteller for his grandkids. Left to celebrate Harry’s memory are his wife, Ann Marie Hlywa; his children, Karen Marie (Jeffrey) Baker, Ken Andrew (Danielle) Hlywa, and Kimberly (Anthony) Restaino; his brother, Larry Hlywa; and his grandchildren, Emma, and Erika Baker, Sarah, Ryan, and Zachary Hlywa, Sammy, Andy, and Mia Restaino.

In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his brother, John Hlywa. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 300 N. Broad St., where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
