Obituary for Joan Griffey

                                                                                                                                                                   GRIFFEY JOAN GRIFFEY, 89, went home to be with our Lord on October 30, 2015. Born to Lucius and Adelene Sigler on February 23, 1926. Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Donald Griffey. Survived by her daughter, Lori Griffey of AZ, son, Dr. Marc Griffey, daughter-in-law, Shannon, grandchildren, Erin, Frances and Sean of Redding, CA, sister, Marlene Benjamin of OH, brother, Bruce Goodman of TN. After graduating high school in 1945 from Andrews Boarding School for Girls, Joan worked as executive secretary to the headmistress and later the dean of students at Andrews School. Taking time off to care for her young children until they went off to school, she continued a lifetime career at Andrews until retirement in 1985. A member of Willoughby United Methodist Church, she volunteered regularly teaching Sunday school and later using her secretarial skills in the church administrative office. Joan loved all sports. She played on the women''s golf league and women''s bowling league. She loved getting a "golf tuneup" lesson from golf pro daughter, Lori. Joan and Donald raised their children in Willoughby, Ohio, living in the same house they built together as newlyweds over 60 years ago. Joan has lived at The Vistas Assisted Living near her son, Marc and his family in Redding, CA for the last 5.5 years, enjoying family dinners, Sunday football, the grandchildren''s sporting events and sitting by the beautiful Sacramento River. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She will be missed for her kind heart and funny wit by her family, friends and the amazing staff at The Vistas Assisted Living. Memorial service to be held at Willoughby United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 11 a.m. in Willoughby, Ohio.
