Obituary for Wanda Swartzlander

WANDA LOU METHENEY SWARTZLANDER
 

 

CONCORD - Wanda Lou Metheney Swartzlander, 78, quietly passed away and joined the Lord at 5:55 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015, at the home she shared with her daughter, Karen Mayercik and son-in-law Mark Mayercik, ending her long battle with Sarcoidosis.

Prior to her illness overtaking her, she resided in her beloved state of Florida for 25 years, formerly of Lake Milton.

Wanda was born April 30, 1937, in Orma, W.Va., the daughter of the late Maysel Metheney McKown and Victor Knots.

She married Albert C. Swartzlander on Aug. 29, 1969, who passed away Jan. 16, 1997.

Wanda was a member of the General Assembly Church of God in Newton Falls and the Seffner Freewill Baptist Church in Seffner, Fla. She enjoyed gospel music, growing flowers and vegetables, her children, grandchildren and her little dog, Suzie.

Loving memories of Wanda will be carried on by her daughter, Mrs. Donald (Reva) Held of Newton Falls; son Jack (Kathy) Cottrill of Boardman; daughter Mrs. Mark (Karen) Mayercik of Concord; five grandchildren, Mrs. Tom (Rebecca Held) Moorehead, Brenton and Michael Held, Mrs. Chris (Nicky Cottrill) Melton and Jeremy Cottrill; great-grandchildren Christopher and Tiffanie Mohan, Brooke Held, Lily Golembowski, and Jonah and Mason Melton; and a great-grandson on the way.

Other than her husband, Albert C. Swartzlander, Wanda was preceded in death by her mother, Maysel Metheney McKown; stepfather Oris McKown of Palm Harbor, Fla.; and father Victor Knots of DuBoise, Pa.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the James Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the General Assembly Church of God, 2021 River Road East, Newton Falls. Pastor Glenn Rader will officiate.

Wanda will be laid to rest at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield.
