James Edward Collins Sr.
James Edward Collins Sr., 85, transitioned from this life on August 21, 2015 surrounded by his children.
A resident of Akron for over 60 years, James retired from the Akron Water Department after 27 years of service. He was a faithful member of Mount Zion Baptist Church for 63 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Beulah Collins Sr. and Ceola Hayes Collins; wife, Marie Collins; children, Betty Jean Collins Arnold and James E. Collins Jr.; and siblings, Morris Collins Jr., Arnell Collins Thomas, Al McArthur Collins, and Gracin Lanier Collins.
He is survived by children, Gloria (Gene) Jennings of Akron, Ohio, Clarie Collins of Union City, Ga., Beverly (Jimmy) Valrie of Snellville, Ga., Kenneth Collins of Pontiac, Mich., Debra (Charles) Logan of Douglasville, Ga., and Latwan Arnold of Stone Mountain, Ga.; 11 sisters and four brothers; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends.
Friends may call on Friday, August 28, 2015 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 327 Cuyahoga Street, Akron, OH 44310. Services will immediately follow, Rev. Dr. Luther C. Cooper, officiating and Pastor Vincent Peterson eulogizing. Interment at Mount Peace Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to and processional will form at 811 Stoner Street, Akron, OH 44320.
