BOARDMAN - Donna J. Freedman, 75, formerly of Youngstown’s west side, passed away early Friday morning, July 10, 2015, at Vista Care Center in Boardman following a lengthy illness.

Donna was born June 3, 1940, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Mike Opsitnik and Clara Rudick, and was raised by her mother and stepfather, George “Huck” Burak in Youngstown.

She was a 1958 graduate of Chaney High School, was a homemaker and sold real estate for a short time. She also owned and operated Canfield Carpet on Shields Road from 1975 until 1979. Donna also spent several years living in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Mrs. Freedman was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Church. She was also a member of Pleasant Valley Evangelical Church, where she taught Junior Church for years.

She enjoyed playing bingo, riding horses, and she was an animal lover who loved dogs, especially her Shelties.

Donna leaves her husband of 57 years, Joseph Freedman, whom she married Sept. 9, 1957; two sons, Gary (Dao) Freedman of Vietnam and David (Victoria) Freedman of Canfield; a daughter, Cheryl Valicenti of Canfield; six grandchildren, Marisa and Matthew Valicenti, Amanda Freedman, Kiana and Kai Freedman, and Justin Pryor; and a great-grandson, Dominic.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 13, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Committal services will follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
