Obituary for Donald Victor Carman

DONALD VICTOR CARMAN

AUSTINTOWN – Donald Victor Carman, 82, passed away Thursday, June 11, at Windsor House at Omni Manor.

Donald was born Jan. 7, 1933, in Salineville, the son of Clyde Victor and Laura Leona Elliott Carman.

Donald was a 1951 graduate and valedictorian of Salineville High School, where he was a member of the National Honors Society and a player on the men’s basketball team.

Upon graduating high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving in several stateside locations from Indiana to New Jersey. While serving, he married Jane Eleanor Downard on April 12, 1954, his wife of 61 years. After being honorably discharged with the rank of corporal, he returned to Ohio and worked for Deming Co. and as a volunteer fire fighter for Lisbon Village. He later worked for General Motors, where he retired after 29 years of service.

From Florida to Missouri and Vermont to Tennessee, Donald enjoyed many years of frequent travel with his wife and extended family. He was fond of tennis, morning walks, dancing with his wife, good chess games and great meals. The definition of humility, he believed you should do everything in moderation, except love.

Donald was preceded in death by his father, mother and brother, Johnny.

He is survived by his wife, Jane of Austintown; his son, Randy of Boardman; his daughter, Linda (Keith) Hoffman of Austintown; three grandchildren, Rebecca, Jennifer and Tyler; four great-grandchildren; brother James (Marilyn) of Salineville; and nephews and nieces.

A private service with close family members will be held at a later date.
