Goldie Matthews
Goldie Matthews, 73, went home to be with the Lord on February 25, 2015. She was a member of The North Hill Community Baptist Church under the Rev. John P. Hosea for more than 40 years. She was the church secretary and a faithful, dedicated and supportive member. She was loved by all and would do anything to help someone in need. She was called mom by many people. She had a passion for cooking and was known for her delicious food.
She was preceded in death by husband of 55 years, Napoleon Matthews; mother and father; brothers, Paul, Peter and Jesse Kelly; sister, Helen Jean Blackmon. She is survived by children, Vicki Matthews Griffin and Michael (Ella) Matthews; grandchildren, Kelicia Hairston, Hohnathan Griffin, Maya Matthews and Michael Matthews II; brother, Algarna (Esther) Grant and James (Terri) Lewis; sister, Anna (Tarona) Bailey; special sister-in-law, Wilma Matthews and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at North Hill Community Baptist, Rev. John Hosea officiating. Interment Mount Peace Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 12 Noon. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 60 W. Salome Avenue, Akron, OH 44310.
