Evelyn M. Atchison was born on May 27, 1929 in Akron, Ohio to Mamie Carroll and Frank Smith. She passed away on January 2, 2015.
Evelyn was a 1947 graduate of Akron North High School and worked at M.O''Neil''s, for 25 years. On March 30, 1948, she married Madison "Matt" Atchison who pre-deceased her in March 2007.
She is survived by her children, Madison Atchison, Jr. (Joyce; Arizona), Bonnie Atchison (deceased), Kevin Atchison, Peggy Cantave (Nelson; New Hampshire), Richard Atchison (deceased) and Lorraine Hopson (Georgia); 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents, Mamie and Frank Smith; step-father, Jefferson Loftin; three siblings, Kenneth Smith, Alice Wheeler-Mixon and Ima Jean Loftin. She is survived by siblings, Helen Hill, Frank Smith, Sr. (Shirley), Mary Cain (Edwin Sr.), Leonard Loftin, Sr., Jefferson "Roy" Loftin, Saundra Loftin Beckley (Georgia), Jeanine Loftin Watson (Rodney; Texas) and Dale Loftin (Calif.); lifelong friend, Rev. Loretta Saunders; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Wesley Temple A.M.E. Zion Church, Rev. Dr. Charles Tyler, Sr. officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to Noon. Eastern Star service will be held at 11:30 with service immediately following. Internment at Mount Peace Cemetery. Condolences can be sent to 1152 CookHill Circle, Akron, OH 44312.
