Obituary for David Burt

David Burt Jr.

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Berean Fellowship Church for Mr. David Burt Jr., 76, who departed this life Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at Hospice House.

Mr. Burt, who was lovingly known as “Burt,” was born Jan. 31, 1933 in Opelika, Ala., a son of David L. Sr. and Rosie V. Dowdell Burt.

He retired on May 14, 1984 after 33 years of service with U.S. Steel Corporation. He attended the Berean Fellowship. A handyman and a philosopher who always gave helpful advice to mentor others, David loved to fish, garden, tinker with cars and enjoyed the beauty of flowers.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, the former Bessie W. Leonard, whom he married Feb. 17, 1952; seven children, Brenda (Robert) McElroy, Maldene Burt and Larry Burt, all of Youngstown, Mary Carter, Terry W. (Marylynn) Burt and David Burt, all of Orlando, Fla. and Darlene (the Rev. Kenneth) March of Grandview, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; a sister, Ella- Mae (Chester) Wynn of Eatonville, Fla.; an aunt, Pearlie Mae Momern of Wadley, Ala.; and a host of other family and friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lendsey and Napoleon Burt; a sister, Major Taylor; a grandson, Maurice McElroy; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
