BOARDMAN – There will be a prayer service at 9:15 a.m. Thursday at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Canfield Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lakes Parish-St. James Church for Frederick Nelson Kochert, 89, who died Sunday morning at Shepherd of the Valley in Boardman.

Mr. Kochert was born July 4, 1925, in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of Fred and Etta Elizabeth Robison Kochert.

He was a graduate of Canfield High School and had attended Youngstown College.

Fred served his country during World War II and the Korean War in the U.S. Navy.

He was a foreman of sub station maintenance with Ohio Edison for 39 years.

Fred was a member of the church and was a charter member of the VFW Post No. 9571 Ellsworth. He was a co-founder of Boy Scout Troop No. 71 of Ellsworth and Berlin Center. Fred started the annual fish fry for the scout troop 50 years ago.

Fred’s wife, the former Elizabeth Ann Drouhard, whom he married April 15, 1950, died April 24, 1999.

Fred is survived by his children, Lisa Castrilla and David (Rose) Kochert, both of Canfield, Rebecca (Jimmy) Douglas of Sidney, Ohio, Janet (Doug) Dunn and Jeanette (Jeff) Guy, both of Salem, and Barbara (Mike) Hahn of Cornersburg; his brother, Milton Kochert of Canfield; 20 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, Fred was preceded in death by his brother, Donald; and his granddaughter, Angela Kochert
