Mamie Frances McCullars
Mamie Frances (Roberts) McCullars was called home on Friday, May 2, 2014.
She was born on December 4, 1921 in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Richard and Roxie Roberts. She moved to Akron as a small child attending Akron Public Schools and graduated from South High School. She met and married Lonney McCullars Sr. and from this union four children were born. They were married for 43 years.
Mom was a strong willed, God-fearing woman, and a loving and devoted mother. She had a great love for children. For several years she opened her home and played an instrumental role in raising her great nieces and nephew, as well as caring for her grandchildren.
She will be best remembered by her strong personality and inspiring words, always instilling the importance of education, honesty, and hard work. Mom''s laugh and sense of humor was always contagious, yet when she spoke we knew she meant what she said and always said what she meant. She also enjoyed mail-order shopping, The Arts, gardening, and cookouts with her family and friends.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Sr. and Roxie Roberts; brothers, Winston Roberts, Eddie Roberts, Richard Roberts Jr., and Leon Roberts; sisters, Rosa Bell Cody and Mary Helen Davis.
Frances is leaving behind and will lovingly be missed by her husband, Lonney McCullars Sr.; her children, Lonnie McCullars Jr., Calvin McCullars, Reginald McCullars, and Valerie McCullars; three grandchildren, Quinita McCullars, Nigle Davis, and Nicole McCullars; sister, Theresa Roberts; sister-in-law, Jean Roberts; and a host of family and friends.
Service will be held Friday, May 9, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home, 529 W. Thornton St., Akron, OH 44307, Rev. Marshall Brandon eulogizing. Interment at Mt. Peace Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until time of service. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 1092 Packard Dr., Akron, OH 44320.
