Obituary for Bruce G Wood
Bruce G. Wood, 84, passed away March 10, 2014 at Florida Hospital in Sebring, FL after a brief illness. Mr. Wood was born on January 18, 1930 in Ashtabula County and was a resident of Mentor on the Lake for 54 years. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2014. He was a Navy veteran having served for three years. Mr. Wood became active in Mentor-Lake Civic League and was integral in developing the city''s charter and was elected to council and served as president in 1973. He also served on several committees such as planning, zoning, and civil service. He umpired girls'' softball and coached little league hardball. The city of Mentor on the Lake recognized Mr. Wood in 1998 with its Citizen of the Year award. Mr. Wood enjoyed camping and fishing as well as spending his winters at Crystal Lake RV Park in Wauchula, FL. Survivors are his wife of 60 years Theresa M. (Pinto); children, Barbara J. (Michael C.) McCoy, Randy V. (Cindy), Robert G. (Jane), and Geri C. of Azle, TX; brother, Ronald G. of Cleveland, and sister, Beverly J. Lodge of Painesville Township; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, and his dog Mitzi. Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his parents Verne A. (1981) and Isabell M. (1999). The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 20, 2014 12 to 3 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Steven Bond of Advent Lutheran Church will officiate service. Burial will be in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester Township
