The Life of BARBARA JEAN BARSNESS
Barbara Barsness, 87, was born May 6, 1926, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence and Ella (Van Pelt) Wallner. She passed away January 14, 2014 at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Barbara was a proud graduate of East High School’s class of 1944, and was previously office manager at Johnson-Holmes Candy Brokers in West Des Moines, retiring in 1986. She was a lifelong member of Grandview Lutheran Church and was a longtime volunteer at Lutheran Hospital.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Linda Barsness of St. Louis, Missouri, and Beverly McAlpin of Red Oak, Iowa; and a daughter by friendship, Carol Rosenband also of St. Louis, Missouri. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Marvin L. Barsness.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 20, 2014 at Grandview Lutheran Church, 2930 E. 13th Street in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends Sunday evening from 3 to 5 p.m. at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines.
