The Life of DONALD RAY SCHLAHT
Don Schlaht, 60, passed away unexpectedly on January 11, 2014. A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 from 4 to 8 pm. Private burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens.
Born in Des Moines on August 29, 1953 to Mary and Leonard Schlaht, Don graduated from Tech High School and began working in the heating and cooling industry. In 1976, Don began working for City Wide Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. He was most recently the Commercial Sales and Services Manager. Owners Bob and Nonie Doty were quoted as saying, “Don was a member of the family, a man of all seasons, and an expert technician in heating and cooling.”
In his free time, Don enjoyed cooking, woodworking in his Man Cave, home improvement projects, and was a talented singer and favorite in local Karaoke circles. He had also recently joined the West Des Moines Elk''s Club.
He will be greatly missed by his mother, Mary Schlaht; his life partner, Julie Rutz; his daughter, Angie Stanton; son, Kelly (Jaimi) Schlaht; 5 grandchildren; and his sister, Carolyn Hughes of Chandler, AZ. Don was preceded in death by his father, and brothers, Ron and Larry.
