The Life of HELEN KATHERINE ERICKSON
Helen Katherine Erickson was born in Sparta, Michigan on July 9, 1914 to August and Ellen (Olson) Anderson. She moved to Muskegon, Michigan with her family in 1918, graduating from Muskegon High School in 1932. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 99 years on December 26, 2013 at Valley View Village in Des Moines, Iowa.
Helen was employed in a variety of office jobs in Muskegon, retiring from Avco Financial Services as an administrative assistant.
Her marriage to David A. Erickson on July 3, 1976 provided 32 years of happiness including travel and family relationships. She was a life member of Forest Park Covenant Church in Muskegon and a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David, in 2008; her parents; brother and sister-in-law Paul A. and Evelyn Anderson; brother Karl; niece Marcia (Gerald) De Groot; and grandchild, Cindy Johnson.
Helen is survived by nieces, Ardyce Johnson (Allan) of Portland, Oregon; Kathleen Hall (Timothy) of Rockford, Michigan; her husband’s children, Janet Johnson of Rockford, Illinois; Richard (Sharon) Erickson of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; and Timothy (Anne) Erickson of Muskegon, Michigan; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Viola Erickson.
A graveside service will be held at Highland Memory Gardens, 1 NE 60th Avenue, Des Moines on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 10:30 a.m., with a memorial service planned at a later date.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Valley View Village for their care of Helen. Gifts in her memory may be made to Valley View Village.
