The Life of MARK ALLEN MEYERS

Mark A. Meyers of Ankeny, a retired Polk County Sheriff Deputy, passed away on October 30, 2013 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. He was born April 4, 1953 in Lincoln, Nebraska. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 4, 2013 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Sunday evening from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. In 1975, he married his wife of 38 years, Margaret. Together they have two children. After graduating from the Police Academy in 1978, he joined the Polk County Sheriff’s Office where he served loyally for 39 years, retiring in May this year as Lieutenant. During his time at the Sheriff’s Office, he worked on the Patrol Division, as a Detective and until retirement with the Office of Professional Standards. Mark was a long time member of the NRA, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, Scottish Rite, and Ankeny Izaak Walton League. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially Sunday family dinners, spoiling his granddaughter, going on cruises with his wife, Western movies, and a good cigar. Mark is survived by his mother, Harriette; his loving wife, Margaret; children, Jenny (Brian) Wise of Altoona and Kim Meyers of Pleasant Hill; grandchild, Hailey Wise; brother, Gary (Jan) Meyers of Urbandale and many nieces, nephews and beloved friends. Contributions can be made to the family to establish a memorial in his name at a later date. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Brown, his nurse, Deena, as well as the Hospice nursing staff.>>
