The Life of KAREN M. KOCHAN

Karen Marie Kochan, 72, of Pottstown, PA, passed away on January 5, 2023, with her family at her side. Karen was born on March 13, 1950, to Phyllis (Balthaser) and Leon Kochan in Reading, PA. She attended Northwest Junior High and graduated from Reading High School in 1968. Then, Karen went on to attend the Pennsylvania State University, where she graduated in 1972 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. Karen also attended Immaculata College, where she earned her master's degree in school psychology. Karen was passionate about serving underprivileged women and children, and she dedicated her career to these causes. During high school, she worked as a playground leader for Reading playgrounds. After college, she was as an administrator at the Reading Housing Authority for over 10 years. She also served as a mental health technician and was actively involved in Women in Transition. In 2016, she retired from her position as a school psychologist at Exeter School District, where she had worked for over 15 years. Karen married her loving husband, Dennis Hullmann, on October 2, 1982 in Reading, PA, and they recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. She was a devoted and caring mother to their two children, Stephanie and Jonathan. Karen loved dogs, including her beloved golden retriever, Lily. Karen enjoyed traveling to Aruba with her family, playing in the church bell choir, attending Broadway shows, shopping, and spending time with family and friends. Karen is survived by her husband, Dennis Hullmann; daughter, Stephanie (Brian Nicholson) Hullmann of Greenwood, IN; son, Jonathan (Lauren) Hullmann of Abington, PA; grandchildren, Hunter Hullmann, Olivia Nicholson, Dylan Hullmann, and Kennedy Hullmann; sister, Kathy (Ronald) Warhola of Athens, GA; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. The family plans to hold a Celebration of Life service on March 18, 2023 at 10 am at Cedarville United Methodist Church, Pottstown, PA, with interment to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery in Laureldale, PA.
