The Life of MAC LEROY FITZGERALD

Leroy Fitzgerald, 83, was born May 10, 1930, in Marshall, Minnesota, son of Eli and Hazel Fitzgerald. He passed away August 24, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Leroy owned and operated Fitzgerald Plumbing for 20 years, and later worked for Drake University for 27 years. He was a member of Staves Memorial United Methodist Church and Odd Fellows Lodge. Leroy was a handyman, and enjoyed woodworking and fishing. Leroy is survived by his wife of 64 years, Darlene Fitzgerald; daughter, Linda (Owen) Golay; son, Richard (Gloria) Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Natalie, Mac, Lance, Zachary, Sara, Carmen, and Jamie; 11 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Ron Schaffer; brother, Cecil (Cathy) Fitzgerald; and his sister, Cecilia Fredregill. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kathy Schaffer; son, Joseph Fitzgerald; and brothers, Norman, Ernest, and Lawrence Fitzgerald. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Staves Memorial United Methodist Church, 2747 East Madison Avenue, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in loving memory of Leroy.
