The Life of MARY JO COX

Mary Jo (Bond) Cox, 74, of Pleasant Hill, IA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 2, 2013. Surrounded by her family and friends, she passed away peacefully from Alzheimer’s at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, August 5, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Mary Jo was born November 14, 1938, in Des Moines, to Carlye and Ethel (Weeks) Bond. She was united in marriage to Archie Leroy Cox on December 5, 1958. Mary Jo Cox graduated from Saydel High School in 1957. She worked many years for Employers Mutual, leaving there to raise her three children. Later years she worked at the Highland Park Open Bible Church and from there she took care of her grandchildren Jordan Cox and Mackenzie Elmore. They were the apple of her eyes. She was an active member of Bethany New Life Christian Fellowship Church. Mary Jo was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed reading, seek and find puzzles, doing ceramics, singing in the church choir and quartets, and the Iowa Hawkeyes, but most of all, spending time with her family and friends. Mary Jo is survived by her husband of 54 years, Archie Leroy Cox; two daughters, Cathy Cox and DeAnn (Gary) Elmore; son, James Cox; grandchildren, Jordan Cox, Mackenzie Elmore, Aimee Lacava, Jennifer Cox, and LeeAnne Cox; and her sister, Eleanor Prewitt. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Jack Bond. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Bethany New Life Christian Fellowship Church for the building fund, or Mercy Hospice in Johnston. We would like to thank all the nurses and staff for the wonderful care provided to Mary Jo at home and at Mercy Hospice Johnston.
