The Life of ROBERT J. KEARNEY

Robert J. “Bob” Kearney, 92, formerly of Whitfield, Spring Township, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at St Luke's Hospice in Bethlehem. Robert was the loving husband of Veronica "Ronnie" C. (Le Beau) Kearney who passed away on June 23,2013; they were married on October 18, 1952. Born in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Vincent and Margaret (Riordan) Kearney. He grew up several blocks from Ronnie, and they met at a high school minstrel show. He graduated from Brooklyn Preparatory School in 1947 and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from St John's University in 1951. He also took graduate level courses at New York University for several years. Robert served in the US Marines, stationed at Camp Lejune during the Korean War. He was an accountant, controller, and manager for various companies. He was also a credentialed member of the American Arbitration Association. He retired from the Berks County Office of Aging, where he also engaged in community outreach. Robert was a member of Pretzel City Chorus for 20 years, and a 30 year member of the Oklahoma Golf Association, the O.G.A., otherwise known as the "Old Guys Association." He loved to sing, write, perform skits, and tell his favorite jokes. He and Ronnie cherished the times their house was full of family and friends, and when Michael’s friends would gather to play music. He was happiest when performing, and loved sitting on his bench at the Ocean City boardwalk, watching the waves and greeting folks walking by. Robert was a resident at Luther Crest Senior Living Center in Allentown, where he was a member of the chorus and drama groups, and continued to entertain residents with stories, songs, costumes, and hats. A charter member of St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, he sang in the Resurrection Choir and was a lector for over 40 years. A man of faith, he was active in the Allentown Diocese Cursillo program. Robert is survived by two children, Michael R. Kearney, and his wife Trudy Honeycutt of Dripping Springs, TX, and Mary K., and her husband Gregory Brown, Orefield, PA, and two treasured grandchildren, Caitlin and Andrew. He was predeceased by one sister, Marjorie, and her husband Fred Haberle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at 10:30 am at St Ignatius Loyola Church 2810 St. Albans Dr., Sinking Spring, PA 19608 with entombment to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery. A viewing will be held Monday, August 30, 2021, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
