The Life of BETTY GERALDINE MORFORD

Betty G. Morford succumbed to heart failure on April 6, 2013, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, at the age of 93. She passed away peacefully in the comforting presence of family members at her bedside. Born Betty G. Pierce on November 26, 1919, she married J. Burch Morford in 1941. The couple lived for a short time in Tiffin, Ohio, before Burch went to serve in WWII. Upon his safe return Betty and Burch were lifelong Des Moines residents. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage until Burch''s death in 1997. In the latter portion of her life Betty moved to Colorado to be near family members. Betty was a graduate of East High School, class of 1937, and was a devoted wife and mother while active in church and volunteer work. As a devout Christian and dedicated church member, she was active in all phases of church life. Betty served on committees, boards, and enjoyed congregational classes and activities, but most of all she was known for her warm smile, joyful worship, and ardent prayer life. She also served as president of the East High School PTA and was an active member of the past president''s committee for many years. A long-time volunteer at Lutheran Hospital, Betty received recognition for 25 years of contribution. She displayed an attitude of loving service in all she did. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Tom Wilson of Colorado Springs; her son and daughter-in-law, Doran and Juliet Morford, of Rye, New Hampshire; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, April 12, 2013, at Hamilton''s near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 121 NW 60th Avenue, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
