The Life of HAZEL MARIE SHRADER
Hazel M. Shrader, 97, passed away Friday, January 18, 2013, at Union Park Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 22nd, at Union Park Baptist Church, 821 Arthur Ave in Des Moines. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Hazel was born in Des Moines on June 18, 1915. She graduated from East High School in Des Moines and married Donald Shrader in 1944. They were married 57 years until Don''s death in 2001. Hazel enjoyed crocheting, as well as many needlecrafts. She and Don enjoyed camping and fishing, and was very involved in her church. Hazel knew no stranger – only friends she hadn''t met yet. She was proud of her high school alma mater and loved the Iowa State Fair.
Hazel is survived by her sons, Russell and Kenneth (Marilee), her daughter, Darlene (Steve) Terpening, two granddaughters, Kari Shrader and Amanda (Nick) Boettger, along with nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Hattie England, and her brothers, Elmer and Floyd.
Visitation will be held Monday, January 21, 2013, from 5-7 pm at the Grandview Iles Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the "2013 Mission Fund" at Union Park Baptist Church, or the Blue Ribbon Foundation at the Iowa State Fair.
