The Life of WENDELL ALBERT RAITT

Wendell Albert Raitt, 94, was born March 8, 1918, in Adel, Iowa, the son of Jack and Rebecca (Collins) Raitt. He passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at his home. Wendell proudly served his country in the Army during World War II. He retired from Cargill after many years of faithful service. Wendell enjoyed making his special spaghetti sauce and baking for his family and friends at The Rose of East Des Moines. In later years, his step-daughter, Jean, introduced him to drawing. Wendell is survived by his daughters, Linda (J.W.) Vancil of Olathe, Kansas; Kathy (Don) Sharp of Des Moines and Janet Rodriguez of Des Moines; grandchildren, Julie (Kelly) Tammen, Brad Vancil, Kim (Norbert) Juist, Michele McGuire, Carlos Rodriguez and Justin Rodriguez; step-grandchildren, Megan McDaniel, Jessica Buckalew, and Chad Lemon; great-grandchildren, Jenna Tammen, Cooper Tammen, Morgan Terry, Kyle Juist, Abby Juist, Libby Juist, Drew Rodriguez, Leah Rodriguez, Dillon Rodriguez, and Aiden Rodriguez; several step-children, including David McDaniel, George McDaniel, and Bev Lemon; numerous nieces and nephews; other loving relatives; and many special friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, January 10, 2013, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue. Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The Rose of East Des Moines or to the VA Community Living Center, 3600 30th Street, Des Moines, IA 50310, in loving memory of Wendell.
