The Life of Jay Hewitt Sanders

Jay H. Sanders, 93, of Ansonia, entered into eternal rest on January 4, 2013. He was the beloved husband of the late Mattie Smith Sanders. Mr. Sanders was born in Society Hill, SC on Oct. 28, 1919, son of the late Stephen and Sally Bass Sanders. A resident of Ansonia since 1970, he was employed in the maintenance dept. at the former Hull Dye in Derby and also as a custodian at Duchess Restaurant in Ansonia. Jay was devoted to his family and enjoyed long walks. He is survived by 4 sons, Hewitt and John Sanders of Ansonia, Willie Sanders of New Haven and Mickey Sanders of Derby, 5 daughters, Margaret Dawson of New Haven, Sally Gee of Ansonia, Hattie Daniels of Derby, Christine House of Hamden, and Dorothy Sanders-Thomas of TX, 37 grandchildren, 120 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sons, Andrew “Levern”, Robert, and Hazel “Curtis” Sanders, a daughter, Virginia Sanders, and several brothers and sisters. His services will be held on Thursday January 10, 2013 at 11:00 am at Star of Bethlehem Church, 18 Lester Street in Ansonia. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Ansonia. Visiting will be held at the church on Thursday morning from 10:00 am until services. The SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia, has been privileged with Mr. Sanders arrangements.
