The Life of ALVIN HARLEY DEAN

Alvin H. Dean, 82, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at a private home in Leon, Iowa. He was born April 4, 1930, to William and Fern Dean in Des Moines. Alvin was a man of faith and was a very active member at Bethany Reformed Church. He worked as a framing carpenter for most of his life. Alvin enjoyed vegetable gardening, planting on 2 or 3 acres at a time, and giving most of the crop away to others. Alvin is survived by his sons, Stephen (JoAnn) Dean of Leon and Calvin (Karen) Dean of Grimes; grandchildren, Carrie (Scott) Ronken, Kali (Jason) Cook, Kyle (Sarah) Dean, Brandon (Julia) Dean, and Megan Dean; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy McClelland; brother, Jerry Dean; as well as many nieces, nephews and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie in 2011; infant son, George; and brother, Larry Dean. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Bethany Reformed Church, 720 NE 52nd Avenue, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, January 7, 2013, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Reformed Church in loving memory of Alvin.>>
