The Life of CAROL ANN DAYTON BURK

Carol Burk, 74, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2012, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. She was born to Russell and Clara (Baldwin) Dayton on August 21, 1938, in Columbus, Ohio. Carol graduated from Worthington Ohio High School in 1956, and from Ohio University in 1961. On June 6, 1961, she married Bradley Michael Burk. Carol and Brad moved to Younkers, NY, and Brad was employed as a financial forecaster for I.B.M. in White Plains. Carol taught middle school French in the Bedford Public School District in Mt. Kisco, NY, for 40 years. Carol and Brad eventually settled in Chappaqua, NY. Together they enjoyed their Siamese cats, reading, and cooking gourmet meals. In 2000, after Brad’s death, Carol moved to the Urbandale, IA, area where she actively participated in the Senior Citizen’s Center, and in the activities of her church home, Urbandale Baptist Church. Carol was preceded in death by her mother Clara in 1981, her father Russ in 1986, and her husband Brad in 2000. She is survived by her brother, Dick (Gloria) of Urbandale, nephew, Paul (Heather) of Urbandale and their children Taylor and Cole; niece, Krista (Matt) of Mt. Vernon, OH, and their children Niko and Lexi; close friend, Delbert Neese, and a host of friends and acquaintances. The family will greet friends from 6 to 7 p.m., Thursday, October 18, at Urbandale Baptist Church, 6501 Aurora Avenue, with funeral services to follow at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Urbandale Baptist Church or the Urbandale Senior Citizen’s Center in loving memory of Carol.
