The Life of HELENE CHARLOTTE NELSON
Helene Nelson, 94, died Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at the Taylor House in Des Moines. She was born March 3, 1918, in Des Moines to Carl and Hannah Berggren.
Helene graduated from East High School in 1936 and has always been a loyal Scarlet alumnus. She worked as a telephone operator until her retirement in 1979. Helene was a lifelong member of Union Park Baptist Church and loved her Lord. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, crafting and camping.
Helene is survived by her children, Susie (Stephen) Dullard and Paul (Lois) Nelson; daughter-in-law, Marlene Nelson; sister-in-law, Emily Berggren; and multiple grandchildren and other loving family members. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Maurice; son, Gary; three brothers, and one sister.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, October 12, 2012, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 13, 2012, at Union Park Baptist Church, 821 Arthur Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
