The Life of LARRY FOREST PIPER JR.

Larry Piper, Jr., 45, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 3, 2012, at his home in Ankeny. He was born January 17, 1967, to Larry and Sylvia Piper in Clearwater, Florida. Larry was a loving son, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle. His niece, Makenzie was the light of his life. He enjoyed being with his family and friends, and was loved by all who knew him. Larry was an avid golfer. His greatest joy was training youth in the junior golf program at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny. Larry was an assistant golf pro in California, Las Vegas, and had extended tenure at Otter Creek. Larry especially enjoyed playing golf on Maui, Hawaii, and volunteering at the Mercedes Golf Classic. Recently, Larry was completing his undergraduate degree in Business at Simpson College and working for Davis Brown Law Firm. Larry was an outdoorsman, fisherman and enjoyed hunting. He loved the ocean, was a book enthusiast, and enjoyed watching movies, listening to music, and sporting events, especially the Dallas Cowboys and Iowa State Cyclones. Larry is survived by his parents, Larry and Sylvia Piper; brother, Chris (Katy) Piper; his niece, Makenzie Piper, all of Ankeny; as well as other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dan. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, June 8, 2012, at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, 510 E. 1st Street, Ankeny, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may visit with family from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 7, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dan Piper Self-Advocacy Memorial Fund with the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS).
