The Life of PATRICK JAMES HAMILL

Patrick "Pat" Hamill, 67, of Altoona, passed away from cancer on April 8, 2012, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 13, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Des Moines, with burial following at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at Iles Funeral Homes – Grandview Park Chapel, with a vigil service at 3 p.m. Pat was born on November 20, 1944, to Walter and Mary Hamill of Fort Dodge, where he graduated from St. Edmond High School in 1963. He owned a painting business for many years, and also worked as an estimator, project manager and, most recently, as a consultant for JC Toland Painting. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the local and state chapters of Painting and Decorating Contractors of America (PDCA). He loved his work, but also enjoyed fishing and watching college football and basketball. He is survived by his wife, Joanne; daughter, Jillene, and her husband, Eric Wilson and their children, Harrison, Carter, Isabella and Bryce; son, Bret, and his wife, Pam Hamill; son, Blaine, and his wife, Carole Hamill and their children, Alyson and husband Joe Mahaffey, Jr., Amanda Hamill, and Anna Hamill; and a great-grandaughter, Scarlett Mahaffey. Pat was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Anne Marie; his parents, Walter and Mary Hamill; a brother, Eugene Hamill; and a sister, Colleen Hamill. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice or to the family for a charity to be determined at a later date.
