The Life of ANNA MAE COCKING

Ann Cocking, 84, of the 3400 block of Kinsey Avenue died of a respiratory ailment Thursday at Rose Medical Center, Denver, CO. Services will be at 10 AM Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Iles Funeral Homes - Grandview Park Chapel. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, followed by a reception at the Euclid Room adjacent to Hy-Vee at 2540 East Euclid Avenue, Des Moines. Mrs. Cocking was born in Dike, IA, and moved to Des Moines at an early age. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School in 1945. She held a number of positions with the State of Iowa, retiring as an administrative assistant in the Department of Agriculture in 1993. Ann was a member of Grant Park Christian Church. She enjoyed cooking, was active in youth activities, traveling with family and friends, and mostly being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family – and a great friend to many. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Charles A. "Bud" Cocking, deceased in 2000; her parents, Hazel and Remmer Paterna and sister, Doris Scannell. She is survived by her three daughters, Patty (Pete) Rickershauser of Denver, CO, Debby (John-deceased) Cocking-Johnson of Ramsey, MN, and Sherry (Pat) Cocking-Keener of Redding, CA; seven grandchildren, Erin (Charlie), Laurie (Jeff), Dan, Katey, Bailey, Taylor and Cole; and four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Jackson, Dylan and Lily. Friends may call from 5 to 7 PM Friday, January 27 at Grandview Park Chapel, 3211 Hubbell Avenue, Des Moines. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation – Iowa Chapter. Mom, you are dearly missed and your legacy will live through your family. Know that you are truly loved and we will hold your loving memory close to our hearts.
