The Life of Linton Pierre Landry

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 20, 2007, at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette, for Linton Pierre Landry, 83, who passed away peacefully on Friday, August 17, 2007 at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Monsignor J. Douglas Courville, JCL, Pastor of St. Jules Catholic Church in Lafayette, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Mr. Landry's five granddaughters will serve as giftbearers. Lector will be Jennifer Patin and Holly Sanford. Songs sung for the services will be "Battle Hymn of the Republic", "On Eagle's Wings", "Ave Maria" and "J'irai la voir un jour".Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Verna Hebert Landry of Lafayette; three daughters, Deborah Mire and her husband Darrel of Biloxi, MS, Paula Patin and her husband Darrell of Breaux Bridge, and Tracey Melancon and her husband Terry of Carencro; two sons, Glenn Landry and his wife, Joyce of Lafayette and Darrell Landry and his wife Gayle of Lafayette; one sister, Sister Paula Landry of San Francisco, CA; two half sisters, Evelyna Martin and Lorena Castille; twelve grandchildren, Heath Mire, Heidi Cooksey, Holly Sanford, Huey Mire, Jennifer Patin, Daniel Patin, Tyler Melancon, Taylor Melancon, Creig Landry, Toby Landry, Heather Landry and Blake Landry; and nine great grandchildren, Maylen Mire, Chance Mire, Landen Mire, Sarah Marie Cooksey, Sydney Cooksey, Hannah Landry, Zoe Landry, Kennedy Landry and Brody Sanford.He was preceded in death by his parents, Cyril and Hubertille Landry; three brothers, Anasta "Pete" Landry, James "Jim" Landry and Joseph Harris "Moon" Landry; three sisters, Amanda Champagne, Sue Thibodeaux and Mae Chatelaine; and one half brother, Bobby Landry.A native of Breaux Bridge and a resident of Lafayette for most of his life, Linton Landry was an employee of Superior/Mobil Oil for 32 years in the production division and a member of the Knights of Columbus, the VFW, Post 69, and the Acadiana Golf Society. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army in World War II. Mr. Landry had a great love for baseball, was drafted with the St. Louis Cardinals and continued his passion by playing on a Lafayette Baseball League team, The Railsplitters. Linton Landry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.Pallbearers will be Creig Landry, Toby Landry, Blake Landry, Heath Mire, Huey Mire, Tyler Melancon and Daniel Patin.A Rosary will be prayed in French on Saturday at 7:00 PM and in English on Sunday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home. The family requests that visitation be observed on Saturday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, on Sunday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM and on Monday from 8:00 AM until time of services at Martin & Castille Funeral Home.
