The Life of Vera Harkins

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at a 10:00 AM Service in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Vera W. Harkins, 94, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 7, 2007 at Southwest Medical Center in Lafayette.Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.Reverend Perry Sanders, former Pastor of First Baptist Church of Lafayette, will officiate the services. Jodi Bollich, organist and soloist, will perform the musical selections.She is survived by one son, I.N. "Corky" Harkins, Jr. and his wife, Deborah of Lafayette; and two grandchildren Gregory Scott and Jason Edward Harkins.She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Iley Newton "Red" Harkins, Sr.; and her parents.A native of Ball, Louisiana and resident of Lafayette for most of her life, Mrs. Harkins was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She had a very strong baptist faith, and was a member of the First Baptist Church Community in Lafayette. Mrs. Harkins was always proud of her mother, who was the first woman timber farmer in the United States. She loved working in her yard and nursing her family of cats, but her passion in life was taking care of her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.Pallbearers will be Gregory Harkins, Jason Harkins, Gene Baker.The family requests that visitation be observed on Monday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until time of services.Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Harkins'' name to Hospice of Acadiana 2600 Johnston Street Suite 200 Lafayette, Louisiana 70503.  Martin & Castille - Lafayette, 337-234-2311
