The Life of JOSEPH THOMAS CHONGO
Joseph T. Chongo, 85, died Sunday, December 4, 2011, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born January 1, 1926, in New York City, New York, the son of Charles and Louise (Sartoris) Chongo.
Joseph was a Veteran of the United States Navy and retired from Firestone in 1985 after 31 years of service. In his retirement years, he loved woodworking and completed many projects. Joseph was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.
Joseph is survived by his son, David (Linda) Chongo; daughters, Susan (Gale) Grant and Peggy (Michael) Nicholson; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby; sister, Edna Alevy; and brothers, Charles and Rudy Chongo.
Funeral services will be 12 p.m., Thursday, December 8, 2011, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at the funeral home.
