The Life of VERA BLANCHE MARIE JOHNSON

Vera Johnson, 99, unexpectedly passed away December 5, 2011. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2011, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, with internment to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday December 8, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Vera was born on a farm south of Indianola on August 28, 1912. She was the second of seven children born to William and Icy Mae Scott. Vera was a 1929 graduate of Des Moines East High School, and married Venner Johnson in 1936. When her mother passed away in 1939, she and Venner moved home and raised her younger siblings. Even though she never had any biological children, she has been like a grandmother to her many, many nieces and nephews. Vera lived a long and happy life, surrounded by the family she loved, in the home she bought for her parents in 1937. Vera is survived by her brother, Dale Scott of Des Moines, and two sisters, Mary Lucy of Des Moines and Leona Harper of Sunrise Beach, MO, and as well as her many, many loving nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews and several great-great-great-nieces and nephews. Vera was preceded in death by her husband Venner.
