The Life of Mr. Walter J. Bygott

Walter John Bygott, age 90, of Shelton, formerly of Fairfield, beloved husband of 64 years of Rosalie (Billings) Bygott, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Ansonia, CT, the son of the late Philip and Estelle Bygott, he had been a Fairfield resident for most of his life. A true patriot, Walter proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, seeing action in South and Central Korea as a Sergeant and Anti-Tank Assault Unit Leader. Following the War, Walter worked as a Manager at Sears Roebuck and Co. and then pursued his dream in the Hardware business; owning Kele's Hardware and Tunxis Hill Hardware in Fairfield. Mr. Fix-it was his name and perfection was his game. Walter was an avid New York Mets fan even with their imperfections. He loved being outdoors tinkering in the yard planting trees and flowers, and took such great pride in his home. He raised pigeons, doves and leaves behind his parakeet, Murphy and the legendary Squirrelly Tail. Above all else, Walter was a people person and loved to chat and tell stories. He consistently placed the needs of others before his and always left a positive lasting impression on those he met. He is adored and will be sadly missed by his four beloved daughters who considered him the ultimate "girl dad": Roseanne Campbell of San Diego, CA, Kathleen Leverty (John) of Fairfield Elizabeth Kirby (Slater) of Southport Lynn Medeo (Patrick) of South Salem, NY, his grandchildren: Sean Campbell (Veronica), Jamie Lafarga (Manuel), Elizabeth Campbell, Marisa Campbell, Slater Jr. Kirby, Ashley Kirby, Dylan Kirby, Madeline Leverty, Jane Leverty, and Walter Briganti; 5 great grandchildren; a sister Virginia Borkowski, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother John and sister Mary. Due to current conditions, a private burial will be held at Oak Lawn Cemetery. A public celebration of Walter's life will be held when safe to do so. In lieu of flowers, friends may consider a donation in Walter's memory to the Semper Fi & America's Fund, 825 College Blvd., Suite 102, PMB 609, Oceanside, CA 92057 or at www.thefund.org/donate. The family wishes to thank all of the compassionate individuals from the EMTs to all the doctors and nurses of Bridgeport Hospital 8th floor for taking such good care of him in his final days.
