The Life of DOROTHEA MARIAN KOOKER

Services:10:00a.m. Friday, December 2 at Basilica of St. John, 1915 University Ave Des Moines. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation:5-6 p.m. Thursday, December 1 at Caldwell-Raddatz Funeral Home, 8201 Hickman Rd Urbandale, IA. A vigil service will be at 6. Dorothea Kooker, 95, died on November 28 at Bright Kavanaugh. Services will be at 10 AM, Friday December 2nd at Basilica of St. John of which she was a member. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Dorothea was born at Faulkner, IA to William and Lulu Diamond on November 17, 1916. She graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Ft. Dodge in 1938 and lived and worked in Hampton, IA. Before moving to Des Moines in 1948 she was employed at the Veteran’s Hospital until 1955 at which time she was married to Forrest Kooker. In 1969, she was employed at Broadlawns Hospital until her retirement in 1978. She was a World War II Army veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre. She was a member of the Basilica of St. John Rosary and Altar Society. She is survived by three nieces, Judith McFarlane and Jannes Diamond of IL and Jean Martin of WI, also sister-in-laws Kathryn Diamond of IL and Mary Jane Kooker of CA and brother-in-law Halford Kooker, Pleasant Hill. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, William and Stanley and her husband Forrest. Visitation will be from 5 to 6 PM Thursday, December 1 at Caldwell-Raddatz Funeral Home. A vigil service will be held at 6 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to her church or Hospice of Central Iowa.
