The Life of REVA S PEARL SMITH

Reva Smith, 94, passed away peacefully at NBA Ramsey Home in Des Moines on Sunday, October 30, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Reva was born September 14, 1917 in Hatfield, Missouri. After high school, she attended Beauty College in St. Joseph, Missouri and worked in that profession full and part-time. In 1941 she married James B. Smith of Bethany, Missouri and they were married 59 happy years until his passing in 2000. Infant son, James Steven Smith passed in January of 1945. In 1953 she and James moved to Iowa ultimately settling in the Highland Park area of Des Moines. Reva worked at Look magazine and Northwestern Bell Telephone where she retired. Reva was active in the American Legion and VFW. She was an avid bingo and card player. She was a great cook and loved to bake for family and friends. Reva was a loving, wife, caring mother, and grandmother, and was a role model for her family which was of great importance to her. She cared deeply about each and every member. She will be dearly missed by her son, Raymond (Judi) Smith of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Angelina (Barry) Thomas and Rebecca Smith; great-grandchildren, Isabella, Braelyn, and Zach Thomas; sisters, Uvon Jones and Bonnie Cronin; sister-in-law, Doris Edwards; as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 12:00 noon at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Visitation will be one hour prior. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Alzheimer’s Association Greater Iowa Chapter, 1730 28th Street, West Des Moines, Iowa 50266.
