The Life of MARY JOSEPHINE HUNTER GARWOOD

Mary Hunter, 87, died Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at Sunny View Nursing and Rehab in Ankeny. She was born September 30, 1924, and raised in Melcher, Iowa, by Peter and Mary Snarich. She later moved to Des Moines where she spent most of her life. Mary married Dale Hunter in September of 1946, and together they raised two children in Des Moines. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, and worked for the VA for thirty years. Mary led a simple life while enjoying gardening and yellow daisies. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. Mary is survived by her sons, Larry (Susan) Hunter, James Hunter; three grandchildren, Michael Hunter of Kansas City, Zachary Hunter of Kansas City, Michelle (Todd) Sutherland of Omaha; two great-grandchildren, Ryan Hunter of Omaha and Grayson Hunter of Omaha. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale F. Hunter in January of 1973. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Monday, October 10, 2011, at All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NE 52nd Street, Des Moines, with burial to follow, at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, October 9, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue. Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Hospice, 5650 NW Johnston Drive, Ste E, Johnston, IA 50131, in loving memory of Mary.
