The Life of OSCAR L JOHNSON

Oscar L. Johnson, 83, of Fleur Heights Care Center died of a heart ailment Monday at Mercy Medical Center.  Services will be at noon Friday at Hamilton''s Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson was born in Cedar Rapids and had lived in Cherokee Village, AR before moving to Des Moines more than 60 years ago.  He was a retired truck driver with Iowa Packing Co. and All American Freight Co.  He was a member of Horseshoe Club of Cherokee Village and enjoyed fishing, horseshoes and camping.

He is survived by two sons, Gary of Des Moines, and Craig of Kansas City, MO; seven brothers, Walter of Urbandale, Carl of McAllen, TX, Roy and Lawrence, both of Des Moines, Glen of Arizona, Richard of Rockford, IL, and Ronald of Creston; a sister, Erma Burt of Des Moines; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Monica.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
